A call stack — painted as a tall tower of labeled specimen drawers, like a naturalist's cabinet. Each drawer holds one paused errand the computer is in the middle of; the topmost drawer stands open and the work continues from there. When an errand finishes, its drawer is lifted clean away, and the one beneath resumes. A single arrow in faded red points at the open drawer: the stack remembers by never losing track of what it was doing underneath. Marginalia in the corner notes the painter's rule: last drawer opened, first drawer closed.
